This photograph was done in the Philippines going north on the island of Luzon, my destination my favorite surf spot at the time. We stopped so my wife could buy fish and I saw these drying in the sun, piled as high as possible. The colors intrigued, as did the shimmer of the scales in the late afternoon light.
As I worked with this file and producing what at the time seemed to be a very dark series of imagery this one stood out to me as I realized that although there was darkness in much of my imagery this as well as others did have a light, hope, escape, goodness.

I instantly fell in love with photography. A few years later I was photographing advertising, corporate and editorial assignments in Dallas, TX. In 1995 American Airlines sent me to Germany to photograph a story on the popularity of the American Cowboy in Germany. This job was fun and crazy. I met people that really wanted to be cowboys, some to the extent of building western towns and on weekends pretending to be just that, cowboys. Later that year they sent me to France to photograph a story on wine. It was an exciting assignment going up...
